The Ferrari 360 was introduced with the 360 Modena, named after the Italian town where Enzo Ferrari was born and where Ferrari’s headquarters are located. It was produced from 1999 to 2005, replacing the Ferrari 355, and was a “clean-sheet design” according to Ferrari. The F360 boasted an all-new Pininfarina design, departing from the classic box-shaped style of previous Ferrari models, and was powered by a naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V8 engine that revved up to 8500 rpm, with a top speed of over 180 mph. The F360 was known for its speed, with a 0 to 60mph acceleration time of 4.5 seconds, impressing even the “new-money buyers” of the 2000s.
The Ferrari 360 was constructed entirely of aluminium, making it 40% stiffer than its predecessor. It was described as being easy to drive while retaining the trademark Ferrari performance. There were various versions of the Ferrari 360, including the Spider, the 360 Challenge Stradale, and the race-specific 360 Challenge, 360 GT, and 360 GTC. A one-off Barchetta model was also gifted to Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, former president of Ferrari, on his wedding day by Gianni Agnelli, the boss of Fiat.
The 360 Challenge Stradale was born out of the GT and GTC’s success, focusing on improving the car’s track performance by enhancing its handling, braking, and reducing its weight. The engineers at Ferrari aimed for a 20% track and 80% road-focused design, with elements such as the throttle response, ceramic brakes, and steering feedback improved to make the driving experience more engaging and exciting.
