The Maserati Shamal, a predecessor to the Maserati Khamsin, was introduced in Modena in December 1989 and was in production until 1996 when it was replaced by the Maserati 3200. Boasting a shorter wheelbase and a 3.2 litre twin turbocharged V8 engine, the Shamal accelerates from 0-60 mph in just over 5 seconds and can reach a top speed of 168 mph.
Designed by the renowned Marcello Gandini, the Shamal bears a striking resemblance to his earlier creations, the Lamborghini Countach and the Quattroporte. The car’s distinctive flared rear fenders and rear slanting wheel arches, along with the unusual front spoiler in front of the windshield and the centre pillar which doubles as a roll bar, lend it a unique and purposeful stance.
