The Ferrari 488 was launched in 2015 as the successor to the F458 and production ended in 2020. The 488 GTB was the first mid-engine Ferrari to feature a turbocharged V8 since the F40, which had 28 years of naturally aspirated Italian engineering. The turbocharge was added to increase power, torque, and lower CO2 emissions, and better mpg. The 488 GTB has a 3902cc twin-turbo V8 engine generating 661 bhp at 8000 rpm with a fuel economy of 25 mpg. This performance upgrade from the 458 Italia’s 4497 cc V8 with 562bhp at 900 rpm and 24mpg shows that the days of naturally aspirated engines are coming to an end.
The 488 also marks a change in Ferrari’s traditional naming convention. Its name refers to the cubic capacity of one of its eight cylinders, breaking away from Ferrari’s usual practice. Ferrari claimed that the 488 offers “extreme performance and driving thrills”. Its 3.9-litre V8 engine produces a maximum power output of 661bhp and can accelerate from 0 to 60mph in just 3.0 seconds and reach a top speed of 205mph, putting it in direct competition with supercars like the McLaren 650s and Lamborghini Huracan.
Ferrari increased the 488’s downforce by 50% compared to the 458 while reducing aerodynamic drag by refining its design. The 488 GTB features a new double front splitter design that channels air over and under the body to generate vortexes and ground the car without adding unwanted drag. The sculptural flanks of the 488 are key to its character, and its large signature air intake scallop is a nod to the original Ferrari 308 GTB.
Ferrari produces variants from each new addition that leaves the production line from Maranello. From the 488 model, Ferrari produced the 488 Spider, 488 Pista, and 488 Pista Spider, as well as a special edition version of the 488 known as the 488 Pista Piloti. Motorsport is at the heart of the Ferrari brand, and the 488 GTE and GT3 were Ferrari’s offerings to compete in races around the world.
Masparts adores Ferrari and all that comes with the cars. The 488’s V8 engine produces a unique and seductive sound that increases in volume and clarity as the revs rise. Masparts has available Tubi Style Ferrari 488 aftermarket exhausts, used 488 spare parts, genuine 488 Ferrari parts, Ferrari 488 Pista parts, Ferrari 488 Challenge parts, Ferrari 488 carbon parts, and a 488 Challenge performance upgrade Evo kit.
